What's it about: A remake of John Wayne's Oscar-winning 1969 film of the same name, "True Grit" follows a gutsy 14-year-old (Steinfeld) who engages a U.S. Marshall (Bridges) to catch the man responsible for her father's murder.
Why it's worth to watch: Hailee Steinfeld makes one helluva acting debut here - she's sharp, intelligent, tough and somehow still maintains the innocence of a young teenage girl. The film perfectly captures the cowboy era, right down to the grittiness of the landscape and the rotten teeth of its people. Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon are brilliant in their roles, and it was particularly touching to watch the relationship develop between Bridges and Steinfeld.
Verdict: Straightforward story-telling at its best with an attention to dialogue and details, "True Grit" is definitely a must-watch for fans of the Coen brothers and the western genre.
